ANY THOUGHTS ON THE AYR GOLD CUP? (NORTHERN FLING - VERY VERY STRONG E-W) 33-1? September 23rd, 2008
hi all, well here we are my fav handicap of the year.i love me stats so have scrutanised this race totally so here goe’s.NORTHERN FLING 33-1 at the moment,he wont be on saturday if he gets the draw, drawn on friday i think.this horse ticks every box i know apart from the draw,he has been totally laid out for this race.his trainer loves this race with four winners out of the last eight runnings of the race,AMAZING achievement for such a big handicap.so he knows what it takes to win the ayr gold cup massive advantage.i wont go into detail but the race northern fling won when beating CHIEF EDITOR is seriously very strong form with 14 winners coming out of the two races,(stewards silver cup) (stewards cup) (great st wilfred)and the portland,so you can see the form.if he gets the draw,he will be in there fighting it out, after all it is a 30 horse handicap race.BUT our club will be having its heaviest bet of the year on it northern fling e-w. cheeky double (NORTHERN DARE AYR SILVER CUP FRIDAY) and (NORTHERN FLING AYR GOLD CUP SATURDAY) both trained by dandy nichols, also NORTHERN DARE has a very good e-w chance aswel.ok good look all CHEERS! good call loanshark, benwilt breeze 2nd last year behind advanced, benwilts trainer said he would of prefered the ground to be a bit better, but is running him regardles.out of the two advanced is the best handicaped on last years race anyway, benwilt breeze was recieving 11lb off advanced this year only 3lb and advanced will love conditions,i will also be backing ADVANCED very worthy fav probally.cheers loanshark.
wow jagui, very unlucky with joseph henry would of won but for the draw, easily won his side group,it looks like a low draw,NORTHERN-FLING back out to 28-1 high draw i think that sez it all.SO i have laid all my cash of on n-f and will be backing ADVANCED 9-1 draw,ground,horse,jockey-best at track, and 5lb lower than last year,WE have him at 28-1 on betfair,he was our cover, but now will be main bet, tajneed jagui i think as got class group,so good call mysilv spot on again.P.S ya got robbed on joseph henry nice picking well done.cheers darl.
unlucky with the draw mick ouch!,ya horse was looking good.hope you got nice odds m8,homework well done.ADVANCED not to be in the first four,i dont think so.NAILED ON e-w bet at 9-1,wont win a million but profit is profit.cheers mick
Hi scally
Now that the draw is out my choice has to be TAJNEED for the Gold Cup on Saturday.
He beat quite a few of the other runners in this race LTO at Ripon over 6f on the Good to Soft and is not badly treated for that win.
I too think Dandy Nicholls could have a Cup Double at Ayr with JOSEPH HENRY today in the Silver Cup (each way).
Good luck with your selections….Jacqui x

Your trainer has a real mass of runners, but I have a little early feeling for "Benwilt Breeze".
Looks like Benwilt Breeze not going to be running so - CONFUSIUS he say man with hole in pocket feel lucky all day!! Likes the going, good draw ridden by the namesake of Sherlock Holmes's arch rival so it must be elementary dear Watson. 10-1 good each way bet !!!!!
Edit Sat.12-20 Don't let the draw worry you guys- if the horse is good enough it will do it - To give you confidence watch DANIDH DUBAI drawn 15 of 15 in the 2-20 there, at 7-1 its an each way steal- but i will be doing to win.

My fancy is Confuchias who will love the expected soft ground but at 10-1 in such an open race its not particularly good value.
You could be right by siding with Dandy the sprint maestro, but i will be interested to see which of his horses son Adrian choses to ride. If he is on Gift Horse or Manzila (both currently 33-1) then i will probably risk a few quid there.
Another one i quite fancy is Bel Cantor which looks overpriced at 25s.
I'll wait to see the draw before making a final decision.
Edit:
Now that Manzila and Gift Horse are non runners, and Bel Cantor ran 4th in the Silver Cup, it only leaves Confuchias from my original selections.
However the high draw does not appear to be an advantage if the Silver Cup is anything to go by. (6 of the first 8 home were drawn in single figures!)
I'm therefore looking at the low drawn horses as i think that is where the pace will be especially as Tamagin (stall 5) is likely to blaze the trail. (thats if the trail can be blazed in such heavy going!)
Advanced has an obvious chance from stall 3 but at something like 8-1 is no value.
I think Patavellian (stall 4) could be the value bet at 33-1.
