What do you think is worse: Making fun of someone for their race or if they are handicapped? September 26th, 2008
Mentally and/or physically handicapped.

but not everyone is handicapped, so they stick out n are prolly made fun of more :/

I think mentally because sometimes it does get to people more then if someone said something to do with them physically. But i think both are as bad.

Because of a handicap. Many of us will have been the victim of some sort of racial abuse, but we can generally deal with it, especially as there are plenty of other people of our kind. Handicapped people are less able to cope with taunts and insults to do with their disability.
I don't know whether this happens elsewhere, but in the UK young people frequently insult others by referring to them as "spastic". This is a particularly nasty thing to call people, as it belittles those suffering from cerebral palsy.

They are about evenly horrible, although more people joke about someones' race. Either way that is the that person is and they can't change it! (unless you are Micheal Jackson)

They're both pretty terrible to tell the truth, but I think making fun of someone who is handicapped is worse because of all the challenges they face in day to day life already. Racism is still a problem, but thanks to laws it isn't quite as bad as it once was. No laws can change the fact that those who are physically or mentally challenged have a much harder time of day to day life than the rest of us. To add to that would be cruel.

I think probably mocking someone for anything is wrong. However, if I have to choose I would say making fun of someone mentally or physically handicapped is worse as they cant fight back.

I think it's much worse to make fun of someone who is handicapped because depending on their condition - goodness - I knew this wonderful man who had Parkinson's and the nurses would joke and pick on him right there in his room - thinking that he was so incapacitated that he couldn't possibly know the difference or understand them. But, he could and it was unbelievably cruel to do that to a man who gave his entire life to humanitarian causes and who fought so intensely for nursing home rights - he ends up in one and gets treated like that. Unbelievable - way worse - way way worse than picking on someone for their race. If a person with a disability is assumed to be vegetative and they are truly not - that is the most cruel thing of all. It's one thing to pick on a healthy person who can defend themselves. It's entirely another to do that to someone who can't share their own opinion or stand up for themselves.

this is not funny the person that does this is probably trying to feel superior.. they dont want any one that is of color or handicapped to be doing the same thing they are doing.. because this makes them feel inadequaate.. in other words they want to feel important.. and some body that is handicapped doing what they do makes the job feel unimportant to them.. ok gilermo.

Handicapped because not all of them can stand up for themselves. No offense some races (cough cough mexicans) can be rude and inconsiderate. Certain races choose how they act handicapped people can't help how they think or function and just because sombody has a 5 year old mindset does'nt mean they dont know the meaning of certain words like stupid, ritarded or dunce. They do not know how they should react and those that are missing a body part or crippled cannot sock you in the mouth and its not their fault they are that way.
